What is unlacquered brass?
Unlacquered brass is a raw brass with a living finish, meaning it lacks a coated finish, allowing natural oxidation to take place. Unlacquered brass arrives looking similar to it’s polished cousin, however, as raw brass ages it will antique and darken over time, yielding a gorgeous patina and look of time worn elegance.
Where can you use unlacquered brass hardware?
Unlacquered brass is a timeless finish that can be used anywhere! However, some of the most popular uses are in kitchen and bathroom.
Some of the most beautiful and classic kitchens utilize lacquered brass cabinet hardware, bridge faucets and pot fillers. Another place you might consider a raw brass finish is in a wet bar. Brass faucets and bar rails offer a timeless and classy look and can truly elevate an area!
When used in a bathroom, unlacquered brass bathroom faucets and shower systems look striking against classic stone choices such as Soapstone or Marble or even a classic subway tile.
In our barn bathroom, I love how the aged brass, wall mount faucet pairs with our wall mount vintage inspired sink! Plus, how great is the optional soap dish?! Adding a gorgeous aged brass bathroom fixture was just what this small space needed to add instant charm! For more ideas on how to add charm, make sure not to miss this post!
Unlacquered brass door handles are the perfect place to add charm and patina to your new or existing doors (interior or exterior!) You can read all about the gorgeous exterior door hardware we chose for our home remodel here!
Is unlacquered brass expensive?
Over the years, unlacquered brass has gained momentum, used by talented designers such as Emily Henderson, Lauren Liess and Jean Stoffer. As a result of its growing popularity, it has become increasingly expensive.
When building our barn conversion and now our home remodel, I was determined to incorporate unlacquered brass elements into our design. I scoured the internet in search of unlacquered brass hardware and plumbing fixtures that fell within our budget and looked effortlessly gorgeous!
As a result, I found many affordable options for unlacquered brass cabinet hardware, kitchen and bathroom fixtures! As long as you are one who can forgo the big name brand (ahem, Rohl) than there are many beautiful and affordable options to be found!
