Art Deco Vanity Desk
Remember that neighborhood estate sale I mentioned a couple posts back? The one where I found that beautiful hall tree?! Well this is another find from that same sale. I fell in love with the character and art deco lines on this piece! And that hardware!! Seriously cool! This desk was so unique, so it had to come home with me.
For this project, I wanted to keep the clean lines and overall style of the desk, but simply give it a little update using General Finishes Milk Paint in Costal Blue (one of my favorites). I decided to keep the original top. I love how the stained wood compliments the Coastal Blue and the existing wood grain was simply too beautiful to cover up!
After this desk was painted, the hardware was looking a tad too yellow and bright, so I darkened them up a little Antique Gold Rub N’ Buff, followed by Annie Sloan’s Dark Wax. This gave the handles that perfectly aged and warm feel that I was going for.
Now to the lucite circles that used to lay behind the brass handles… after the desk was complete, the color of these lucite circles was all wrong. I tried using a little Rub N’ Buff to see if it made things more cohesive, but decided that they simply made this piece look too fussy. So I lost the circles, kept the aged brass. Perfection 🙂
