Rescued Vanity
I had seen this sweet, little vanity in a local thrift store for a few weeks. For some reason, it spoke to me and I knew that I had to have it! Every time I saw it, I would picture a children’s birthday party or backyard BBQ. I could just picture this cute little bar in someone’s dining room or covered porch with glasses of lemonade, striped paper straws and a fun chalkboard sign above to mark the occasion!
My original plan was to keep the mirror and to make the backside a chalkboard, since the mirror portion could easily be removed and turned around. Sadly, the mirror (a beautiful, thick mirror!) met its demise when a gust of wind knocked it onto the floor and it shattered 🙁 Errr… it still bothers me today! But, well… c’est la vie… a chalkboard it will be!
I used Annie Sloan’s Paris Grey for this piece and gave it a very subtle white wash with Annie Sloan’s Old White. Then I added a bit of distressing and finished her up with General Finishes Flat Out Flat. I chose this finish, as opposed to Annie Sloan’s Soft Wax, because it can be used outside and will keep its look and durability. Lastly, I wanted to give this piece a little something different, so I headed down to Paper Source and found this adorable paper to decoupage onto the backsplash. Can’t you just taste the lemonade on a sunny day?!
